The Amazing Race - Geography Unit...

I've designed a Curriculum Unit that can be used for Students in Middle School to learn about other Countries throughout the world. This unit is ideally for Years 7 or 8 but can be adapted to tailor to specific abilities, talents and skill set. The unit is based on the television program, The Amazing Race. The program is a race where teams of two unite to follow prompts, activities and challenges which has them traveling around the world. The unit will use an iPad and applications to simulate the game The Amazing Race. I used the following applications: Google Earth, Geocaching, Keynote, Pages, Kidpaint, Drawing Pad, Sketchbook Pro, Evernote, doCas, Google, Wikipedia, Strip Designer, Pictello, Story Patch, My Memoir, iDiary, Jumbo Calculator and Numbers. You could definitely use other apps such as The Barefoot Atlas, Stuck on Earth, Learn the World and Geo Walk. Other apps that can be used are Knowmia, Explain Everything, Videoscribe, iMovie, Explain a Website and Show Me. So how does this unit work: Using apps, the internet and other resources, students must choose a country and then select activities that suit their learning style to 1. find information about their chosen destination and 2. present their findings in a creative, fun way using the iPad and other technology. The unit works like The Amazing Race Game where students have to work through the unit task by task.
